Popular fiction, or as snobby literary circles call it, popfiction, is pretty rad.

I bet in Shakespeare's day, the same kind of self-proclaimed literary experts were all like
"bah! Shakespeare is for lowly single-celled organisms such as yourself.  I *only* read Chaucer.  Also, I don't drink mead, that's for lesser men.  I only drink Morat."

Anyways, I really like that Haruki Murakami character, even though the upper echelons of the Japanese literature establishment compares it with nothing less than horse shit.  Anything written after the early Showa period (1868-1945) is considered less than garbage.
